When it comes to beauty, there’s no greater horror than bad skin. And when beauty consumers examine their faces with a magnifying mirror to get a better grasp on any imperfections that may have gone undetected from a distance, under-eye creases and skin barrier repair are the fastest growing concerns according to Spate.

Under-Eye Creases

Whether from a lack of quality sleep, exercising the muscles with daily hard laughter or older age, under-eye creases are a top concern for the eagle-eyed consumer.

Analysts say undereye creases have seen a +96.0% growth in views compared to last year, with 208.6K average weekly views on TikTok. On Google, the search for under-eye creases averages 2.5K monthly searches, with +77.8% growth over the past year. Top Google search queries include how to get rid of creases under eyes, deep under-eye creases, and under-eye creases makeup, while on TikTok, popular hashtags like #makeuptutorial (47.5K average weekly views), #makeuptips (44.2K average weekly views) and #concealer (41.2K average weekly views) dominate.

While some consumers are searching for ways to eliminate under-eye creases—leaving room for a brand to launch a product specifically targeting this issue—others are looking for makeup solutions that won’t exacerbate the fine lines. TikTok creators are sharing tips on avoiding cakey makeup under the eyes. This highlights another opportunity for brands to develop products that not only target under-eye creases, but teaches consumers about how to apply makeup sans the unwanted cracking.

Skin Barrier Repair

The skin barrier continues to be on consumer radar with data to back up its growing popularity. In fact, as TikTok suggests, views related to the skin barrier have surged by +74.8% compared to last year, reaching an average of 478.7K weekly views. On Google, searches have increased by +7.9%, with an average of 9.9K monthly searches. Popular hashtags on TikTok include #rednessskincare (11.2K average weekly views), #skincaretips (9.8K average. weekly views) and #skincareforsensitiveskin (7.1K average weekly views), while Google’s top queries focus on finding the best skin barrier repair products, understanding how to repair the skin barrier and learning how long the process takes.

Spate says this sustained interest presents an opportunity for brands to educate consumers about skin barrier health, offer products specifically designed to repair it and potentially expand existing product lines or introduce skin barrier repair kits.
